Romeo and Juliet song project

Act 1 Song: "I'm a Believer" by Monkees

I thought love was only true in fairytalesMeant for someone else but not for meLove was out to get meThat's the way it seemedDisappointment haunted all my dreams
Then I saw her face, now I'm a believerNot a trace of doubt in my mindI'm in love, I'm a believerI couldn't leave her if I tried
I thought love was more or less a givin' thingSeems the more I gave the less I gotWhat's the use in trying? All you get is painWhen I needed sunshine I got rain
Then I saw her face, now I'm a believerNot a trace of doubt in my mindI'm in love, I'm a believerI couldn't leave her if I tried
Love was out to get meNow that's the way it seemedDisappointment haunted all my dreams
Oh then I saw her face, now I'm a believerNot a trace of doubt in my mindI'm in love, I'm a believerI couldn't leave her if I tried
Yes I saw her face, now I'm a believerNot a trace of doubt in my mindSaid I'm a believer, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah (I'm a believer) (I'm a believer)Said I'm a believer, yeah(I'm a believer)Said I'm a believer, yeah(I'm a believer)

This fits act 1 because Romeo was very depressed about love like the guy in the song. But when he sees Juliet, he forgets all that and immediately thinks he's in love with her. So much in love he would die without her. He is definitely a believer by the end of act 1.

Act 2

Song: Sweet Child O' Mine by Guns and Roses

She's got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything was as fresh as the bright blue sky

Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that special place
And if I stare too long, I'd probably break down and cry

Whoa, oh, oh, sweet child o' mine
Whoa, oh, oh, oh, sweet love of mine

She's got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain
I'd hate to look into those eyes and see an ounce of pain

Her hair reminds me of a warm, safe place
Where as a child I'd hide
And pray for the thunder and the rain to quietly pass me by

Whoa, oh, oh, sweet child o' mine
Whoa, oh, oh, oh, sweet love of mine

Whoa, oh, oh, oh, sweet child o' mine
Oh, oh, oh, oh, sweet love of mine

Whoa, oh, oh, oh, sweet child o' mine
Ooh, sweet love of mine

Where do we go?
Where do we go now?
Where do we go?

Where do we go?
Where do we go now?
Oh, where do we go now?

Where do we go?
Where do we go now?
(Sweet child)
Ooh, where do we go now?

Where do we go?
Oh, where do we go now?
Oh, where do we go ?

Where do we go now?
Where do we go?
Oh, where do we now?

Now now now now now now now
Sweet child, sweet child o' mine

A pretty simple love song that sums up how Romeo feels about Juliet. There's more love at first sight stuff here. The "where do we go now" bit adds a bit of uncertainty to the whole song, just as Romeo and Juliet being in different houses puts uncertainty in the play.

Act 3

Song: "Yesterday" by the Beatles

Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away
Now it looks as though they're here to stay
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Suddenly, I'm not half to man I used to be,
There's a shadow hanging over me.
Oh, yesterday came suddenly.

Why she had to go I don't know she wouldn't say.
I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday.

Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play.
Now I need a place to hide away.

Has a lot less lyrics than previous songs, but they're meaningfull. After all the complications of Act 3, Romeo is definitely longing for yesterday when it seemed nothing could get between him and Juliet. The "Why she had to go I don't know" part could also apply for Juliet (with a "he" instead of a "she") since Romeo is banished and she doesn't know if she will see him again.
Act 4

Song: Act 4

Song: "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica

So close, no matter how farCouldn't be much more from the heartForever trusting who we areAnd nothing else matters
I never opened myself this wayLife is ours, we live it our wayAll these words I don't just sayAnd nothing else matters
Yeah, trust I seek and I find in youEvery day for us something newOpen mind for a different viewAnd nothing else matters
Never cared for what they doNever cared for what they knowAnd I know
So close, no matter how farCouldn't be much more from the heartForever trusting who we areAnd nothing else matters
Never cared for what they doNever cared for what they knowAnd I know, that's right
Never opened myself this wayAnd life is ours, we live it our wayAll these words I don't just sayAnd nothing else matters, yeah
Trust I seek and I find in youEvery day for us something newOpen mind for a different viewAnd nothing else matters
Never cared for things they sayNever cared for games they playI never cared for what they doI never cared for what they knowAnd I know, yeah yeah yeah

Previous songs have been more Romeo-oriented, but this one is all about Juliet. The song talks about how the singer doesn't care about what other people say, only one thing matters to them. And to Juliet, that one thing is Romeo.

Act 5

Song: "I Will Follow You Into the Dark" by Death Cab for Cutie

Love of mine some day you will die
But I'll be close behind
I'll follow you into the dark

No blinding light or tunnels to gates of white
Just our hands clasped so tight
Waiting for the hint of a spark
If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the NOs on their vacancy signs

If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark

In Catholic school as vicious as Roman rule
I got my knuckles bruised by a lady in black
And I held my tongue as she told me
"Son fear is the heart of love"
So I never went back

If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the NOs on their vacancy signs

If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark

You and me have seen everything to see
From Bangkok to Calgary
And the soles of your shoes are all worn down
The time for sleep is now
It's nothing to cry about
'cause we'll hold each other soon
In the blackest of rooms

If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the No's on their vacancy signs

If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark
Then I'll follow you into the dark

This song embodies Act 5 because both of them kill themselves when the other is dead (or they think the other is dead). There really isn't much else to say about it; it just totally conveys how the two are feeling at the time of theire deaths.
